Aztec Love
Many of you are familiar the image of the Aztec warrior carrying a woman , but do you know the legend behind it? The legend comes from the ancient Náhuas Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatepetl when the Aztecs lived in Tenochtitlan, today's Mexico City. The chief of the Aztecs had a beautiful daughter named Iztaccíhuatl,she grew up and fell in love with a captain of a tribe named Popocatepetl. He asked for the Emperor's permission to marry his daughter and he agreed under one condition,he to bring the head of the enemy chief back from the war.Popocatépetl went off to war Several months passed and a false message back to Iztaccíhuatl that her loved one had died in battle. When Iztaccíhuatl heard her lover's fate she was overcome overcome by the news, refused to eat and died of grief. Popocatépetl returned victorious and found out of his Love's death he could not be consoled. He carried his beloved to the mountains and put her down to rest, then plunged a dagger in his broken heart. The gods covered them with snow and changed them into famous peaks in Mexico. Together in eternity are Iztaccíhuatl's mountain and Popocatépetl's volcano, still active today raining fire on Earth in blind rage at the loss of his beloved.

This painting has several mining's one is pleasure people like seen thing that relate to their culture. At first sight when you see the image you get the sense of the man being powerful and strong. In the mexican culture that is actually how it is women are submissive to their men and men are the leaders in many ways. This painting is a work of art that is repeated in sculptures calendars and also clothing so to society this is important because it expresses our culture.
